Secure I AM Frequently asked Questions

General

Secure I AM does not recommend that alarms are maintained by individuals because of the complexities that can be involved. However the questions and answers below may help you identify the likely problem with your system.

Q. My alarm system is not working after a power cut, but the lights are on?

A. The chances are the backup battery has failed and this could be causing you problems, backup batteries should be replaced every 5 years.

Q. My alarm system is not working after a power cut, and no lights are on?

A. The chances are the backup battery has failed and the mains power is not yet back on, or a fuse somewhere between the mains and the alarm system has failed and this could be causing you problems, backup batteries should be replaced every 5 years. If your power supply is back on and there are no signs of power to your alarm system, call an alarm engineer.

Q. I have replaced my backup battery but the panel still does not accept my code but the lights are on?

A. Try the default codes for that alarm panel.

Q. I have replaced the battery and my code or the default codes still do not work, what do I do now?

A. If you did not call an engineer to your system to change the battery, you will have to call a local alarm engineer to look into the issue. The alarm panel may have something else wrong and may need to be replaced?

Q. After decorating my alarm panel started to make a noise and the tamper light is on?

A. The chances are you have created a tamper fault; this is usually done when a device is moved, or the cable clipped. You should call an alarm engineer to fix the issue.

Q. My alarm panel doesn't work properly, all the zones that the PIR's are on don't work, but the door contacts do, what's wrong?

A. If a door contact works and your devices that are powered do not work (PIR's), it could be a short on the power cable, blown fuse, break in the power cable supplying the devices. This is often caused during decorating or carpet laying when the cable may have been damaged. You need an alarm engineer to rectify this issue.

Q. I have added a PIR to my alarm system, it lights up when I walk in front of it but doesn't walk test or cause an alarm when the system is set, what's wrong?

A. The chances are you have setup the PIR incorrectly, used an incompatible PIR on your system or not programmed it correctly in the alarm panel. Check all your settings, if the fault persists check the compatibility and call an alarm engineer.

Veritas

Q. I cannot set my alarm, there are lights flashing and the panel is beeping, what's wrong?

A. The flashing lights and beeps correspond to a fault on the system, which when cleared the system will set. 1 beep and zone 1 light flashing zone 1 active, 2 beeps and zone 2 flashing zone 2 active and so on, 9 beeps and tamper flashing, tamper fault, 10 beeps and power light flashing, power fault.

Q. I need to go out can I set my system without clearing the fault?

A. Yes, set the system as normal, then Omit then enter the zone number which has the fault number and press program. Note Zone 1 cannot normally be omitted. To omit a tamper fault Omit 9 program, to omit power fault, Omit 0 program. This is only temporary solution, the actual fault needs to be identified and corrected by an alarm engineer.

Q. How do I change my alarm code?

A. Enter Code, Press Program, Press 60, Type New Code, Press Program, Press Reset twice to return to day mode.

Q. How many user codes can you have on a Veritas?

A. Veritas 8, Compact and R8 only have one master user code, R8+ and Excel panels have 1 master user code and you can program another 6 user codes?

Q. How do I add a new user?

A. Only the Master user, can add a user to a Veritas r8+ or Excel alarm system. Enter the Master user code, Press Program, Press 63, type the code for user 3, Press Program, Press 73, Select user level 1(normal user), Press Program. The Master user manual has all the user types available. It is recommended not to change the user types for 61 and 62 as this is the Master user and the Engineer and is required on all R8+ and excel systems.

Q. How does user 3 change their user code?

A. All users can change their code by pressing the following in sequence their user code, program, new code, program.

Q. I share a property with lodgers, User 4 on the system has recently moved out and I don't know his code, how do I cancel it?

A. Only the Master User can delete users, type in Master user Code, Program, 74 (4 is for user 4), Press Program, Press, 7 (user type null), press Program. The User code is still in the system, but the user 4 cannot use the system.

Q. I have a new lodger, and need to active user 4 with a new code as I don't have the old one, how do I do that?

A. Only the Master User can add/ reactivate users, type in Master user Code, Program, 74 (4 is for user 4), Press 1, press program, user is enabled, press 64, enter new code, program. User 4 has been reactivated and given a new code.

Q. I want to change my part set, how do I do that?

A. Only engineers can program Part sets, however you can set the system as you would normally and press Omit, press the zone numbers you want to omit, then program. This will be required every time you want to set the system this way, to permanently change the part set, consult the alarm engineer.
